The CRAFT prompt method

Context · Role · Action · Format · Tone. Five dimensions every good prompt covers.

C
Context

Context of the request

Give the model what it can't guess: sector, company size, constraints, decision history, expected register.

R
Role

Role the model plays

"You are the editorial assistant of the sales director of an industrial SME." The role frames register, references and trade-offs.

A
Action

Expected action

One verb, one task, clear limits: "draft a follow-up email in 80 words, no fluff, with one call to action". Not "can you help me".

F
Format

Format of the answer

Table, list, JSON, paragraph, email structure… No surprises — we spell out the expected shape.

T
Tone

Tone

Sober, factual, technical, warm, direct… Tone changes everything, especially in professional French.
