ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini : lequel choisir pour votre PME ?

Three tools, three philosophies. How to choose based on your use cases, budget, and GDPR constraints.

Three tools, three philosophies

The question comes up in every audit: "Which one should we pick? ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini?"

Wrong question. The right one: which tool for which use case, in which context?

Here's what we see in the field, across 30 industrial SMEs between 2024 and 2026.

ChatGPT (OpenAI)

The most versatile. The most mature ecosystem: Projects, custom GPTs, Canvas, web search, image generation. If your teams have never touched generative AI, this is the simplest entry point.

  • Strengths: versatility, integrations (Zapier, Make, Notion), custom GPTs, reference market
  • Weaknesses: US-hosted by default; Team/Enterprise is the minimum for serious professional use
  • SME pricing: ~€25/user/month (Team) or €60/month (Enterprise, on quote)
  • GDPR: compliant with Team/Enterprise (no training on your data, DPA contracts available). The free version is not.

Claude (Anthropic)

The most rigorous for long-form writing, document analysis, structured reasoning. Our favourite when it comes to producing serious professional writing: framing notes, meeting minutes, regulatory summaries.

  • Strengths: writing quality in French and English, large context window (200k tokens), Projects, measured tone
  • Weaknesses: no native image generation, younger integrations ecosystem
  • SME pricing: ~€22/user/month (Team) or Enterprise plan on quote
  • GDPR: compliant with Team/Enterprise, AWS Europe hosting available

Gemini (Google)

The most relevant if you already live inside Google Workspace. Gemini is built into Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Meet. No habit change for your teams.

  • Strengths: native Workspace integration, NotebookLM (excellent for internal documentation), 1M-token context window
  • Weaknesses: uneven quality across versions, less editorial finesse in French
  • SME pricing: included in Workspace Business Standard (~€12/user/month) or +€20 with Gemini Business
  • GDPR: compliant with Workspace, Europe hosting configurable

Our decision grid

It's not about the best one. It's about the right tool, in the right hands, for the right use case.

If your priority is professional writing in French

→ Claude. Higher writing quality, soberer tone, fewer linguistic tics.

If your priority is ecosystem and versatility

→ ChatGPT Team. The widest use-case catalogue, the most active community, custom GPTs.

If you're already on Google Workspace

→ Gemini Business. No double subscription, native integration, your teams don't change interface.

If you handle lots of internal documents (procedures, contracts, reports)

→ NotebookLM (Google, free) as a complement. Excellent for querying a closed corpus without leak risk.

And honestly, what about GDPR?

All three vendors offer GDPR-compatible contracts on their paid plans (Team, Enterprise, Workspace Business). Three simple rules:

  1. Never the free version for professional data
  2. Always a signed DPA with the vendor
  3. Always an internal usage charter, validated by your DPO

The main GDPR risk in SMEs is not the tool. It's the absence of usage rules.

Our pragmatic recommendation

For most SMEs we work with, the right mix costs between €15 and €30 per user per month:

  • One Claude Team licence for the functions that write (leadership, marketing, legal, HR)
  • Workspace + Gemini Business or ChatGPT Team for the rest of the organisation
  • NotebookLM cross-functionally for internal documentation

In the MAKIA method we call this an equipped choice: you don't deploy a tool because it's fashionable. You deploy it because it solves a measured problem.

The right tool is the one your team actually uses on Monday morning.
